Bank Privacy Statement

Bank of Blue Valley understands that our customers expect their personal information to be treated in an appropriate and confidential manner. We recognize the reasonable expectation of privacy by all of our customers and the importance of protecting that privacy. The following principles are the foundation upon which our policy is built.

Respecting our Customer's Privacy

Our customers expect us to collect and use customer information in a manner that is appropriate to their financial needs. In recognizing that expectation, the bank's Code of Conduct details the bank's confidentiality expectations of its employees. While we also respect the privacy expectations of our employees, this policy is designed to protect the customers of the bank. All Human Resource policies will be handled through that department in a separate publication.

What information do we collect from you?

Visitors to our website who do not log in to website services remain anonymous. Bank of Blue Valley does not collect personally identifying information such as email address unless you choose to provide it to us.

Bank of Blue Valley uses standard industry software to collect information about your visit to our website. We use this data to create summary statistics and to determine the level of interest in the information provided on our website. The information collected includes:

  • the date and time of site visitors
  • web browser and platform used (such as Internet Explorer and Windows)
  • pages accessed during your visit
  • use of website forms

Visitors to the website may also, at their own discretion, provide personal information via email, forms, or by filling out applications. This information will be used internally, as appropriate, to handle you request. It will not be given or sold to other non-related parties.

All online banking customers enrolled in BlueWave Online Banking have provided Bank of Blue Valley with specific personal information at the time of enrollment and we have provided them with our Online Banking Disclosures. If you are a BlueWave user, we may access your email address in order to send you email updates regarding maintenance, enhancements and/or security information pertaining to BlueWave and its applications. If you prefer not to receive email of this nature, you may email your request to bluewave@bankbv.com.

How do we collect information from you?

Direct Collection

We collect much of the information listed above directly from you when you submit it on our website.  This includes information such as registration information, contact information, and form submission.  If you do not want to share your information, you can choose not to participate in a particular service or activity.

Indirect Collection – Cookies and Other Technology

As part of offering and providing customizable and personalized services, many websites use cookies and other online tracking technologies to store and sometimes track information about you.  We may use these technologies to:

  • Provide you with personalized content based on your use of our site
  • Enable you to more easily use our site by remembering and using contact information, form information, and registration information
  • Evaluate, monitor and analyze the use of our site and its traffic patterns to help improve our site and services
  • Assist us with ad reporting functions such as to learn which ads are bringing users to our website

The types of technologies we use include:

Cookies.  A cookie is a small amount of data that is sent to your browser from a Web server and stored on your computer’s hard drive.  Cookies enable us to identify your browser as a unique user.  Cookies may involve the transmission of information from us to you and from you to us.  Cookies may also be used by another party on our behalf to transfer information to us in accordance with their privacy policy.  Some cookies are "persistent cookies."  They are used by us each time you access our website.  Other cookies are called "session cookies."  Session cookies are used only during a specific browsing session.  We may use a session cookie, for example, to remember that you have already navigated through a particular menu, or that you have entered in age information for a portion of a site that is restricted by age.  We may also use "analytics cookies" that allow web analytics services to recognize your browser or device and, for example, identify whether you have visited our website before, what you have previously viewed or clicked on, and how you found us.  This information is provided anonymously for statistical analysis only.  Analytics cookies are usually persistent cookies.  The cookies we use do not contain or capture unencrypted Personal Information. Our cookies help make our website more efficient and user friendly, and they allow us to collect non-personal information such as browser type, time spent on our website, pages visited, repeat visits, language preferences, and your relationship with us. 

BlueWave Online Banking uses a separate cookie.  We use the information from this cookie identify your browser for security purposes in order to use our secure online banking products.  This cookie is just one of several factors we use to identify our customers to initiate the secure session and determine if further verification is needed.  This cookie is only used for BlueWave Online Banking, and cannot be read by any third party source or social media platform.


You may disable browser cookies in your browser or set your browser to warn you when a cookie is being sent.  You may lose some features or functionality when you disable cookies.  Remember, also, that disabling cookies is browser specific.  If you log on using Internet Explorer, you must also disable cookies in Safari if you use that browser at a different time. 


Web Beacons.  We also employ a software technology called a clear GIF (Graphics Interchange Format), also known as a pixel tag or Web beacon.  A clear GIF is a line of code that we place on our websites or in e-mails which allows us to analyze our advertising and the general usage patterns of visitors to our websites.  These help us better manage content on our site by informing us what content or promotions are effective.  Unless you consent, we do not collect personally identifiable information from you through the use of web beacons.  You may not disable Web beacons.

Log Files.  Like most standard website servers, we use log files.  Log files track Internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, Internet service provider (ISP), referring/exit pages, platform type, date/time stamp, and number of clicks.  We utilize this information to analyze trends, administer the site, prevent fraud, track website navigation in the aggregate, and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use.

Indirect Collection – Social Media

Bank of Blue Valley provides experiences on social media platforms, such as Facebook®, Twitter®, LinkedIn®, and YouTube® that enable online sharing among users who have registered to use them. Any content you post, such as pictures, information, opinions, or any personal information that you make available to other participants on these social platforms, is subject to the Terms of Use and Privacy Policies of those platforms. Please refer to their policies to better understand your rights and obligations with regard to such content. 

When you use social networking platforms and plugins, you share your information with them and their privacy policy applies disclosure of such information.  In addition, they may be able to collect information about you, including your activity or may notify your connections on the social networking platform about your use of the bank's websites.  Such services may allow your activity to be monitored across multiple websites for purposes of delivering more targeted advertising.  Please note that their own privacy polices apply and we encourage you to read them.  We may add new social networking plugins and buttons to our websites from time to time.

Indirect Collection – Third Party Advertising Services 

We may employ over time various different advertising or remarketing services that serve you targeted advertisements to make your online experience more focused to your interests.  These tools and technologies collect and analyze certain types of information across websites, including cookies, IP addresses, device and software identifiers, referring and exit URLs, onsite behavior and usage information, feature use metrics and statistics, usage history, MAC Address, mobile unique device ID, and other similar information.

Website Traffic – We use Google Analytics™ to help us analyze how visitors use and browse our website, so we can make it efficient and useful.  To opt-out, which prevents us from collecting information about visits to our site, or any other website you visit, and to opt-out of other Google Analytics features, please visit the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on webpage. For all other details, please see Google's Privacy Policy.   For more information about how Google uses analytical data, please review their Partner Policy.  Google Analytics does not apply to any user’s activity once logged into BlueWave Online Banking, until you have logged out of that secure session and are returned to the public space of our website. 

Online Advertising – We advertise our products and services through online advertising services such as Google AdWords™, Facebook and other third party advertising platforms.  You may see Bank of Blue Valley advertisements on third party websites.  If you click on one of our ads, a cookie may be stored on your browser to display tailored ads for our products or services.  You may view and opt out of Google’s personalized advertising here.  You may opt out of Facebook personalized advertising here.  You can see and choose to opt out of the automated collection of information by third party ad networks for the purpose of delivering advertisements tailored to your interests by visiting the third party consumer opt-out page for the Self-Regulatory Principles for Online Behavioral Advertising or the Network Advertising Initiative Opt-Out page.  Opting out will not stop advertisements from appearing in your browser; however the ads you see will be generic and may not be relevant to your interests.

Association of Information – If applicable by your browser settings and preferences, we may associate information from your computer or mobile device by using cookies. When used, this enables us to identify you as our customer, track your activity on our website and to associate you with your browser.  We may use this association of information to deliver products and services to you, provide you with updates on your products and services, advertise and market our products and services, contact you with promotions that you may be interested in (as applicable by law), and conduct market research to improve our online services and products.

With whom do we share your information?

We will not disclose any of your personally identifiable information except when we have your permission or under special circumstances, such as when we believe in good faith that the law requires it or under the circumstances described below.  These are some of the ways that your information may be disclosed: 

Service Providers

We occasionally hire other companies to provide limited services on our behalf, including website development and operation, answering customer questions about products or services, sending postal mail or email, analyzing website use, processing payments, and processing data.  We will only provide those companies the information they need to deliver the service, and they are contractually prohibited from using that information for any other reason.

Data in the Aggregate

We may disclose “blinded” aggregated data and user statistics to prospective partners and other third parties.  Blinded data is data that does not identify an individual person.

Other

We also may disclose your information in special cases.  For example, when we believe that we must disclose information to identify, contact or bring legal action against someone who may be violating our Terms of Use, or may be causing injury to or interference with our rights or property, other website users or customers and their information, or anyone else who may be harmed by such activities.  The bank and our service providers may disclose, access or monitor your personal information when we believe in good faith that the law requires it and for administrative and other purposes that we deem necessary to maintain, service and improve our products and services and our information security. 
As we continue to develop our business, we may buy or sell businesses or assets.  In such transactions, confidential customer information generally is one of the transferred business assets.  In the event of a transaction involving the sale of some or all of the bank's businesses, customer and site visitor information may be one of the transferred assets and may be disclosed in connection with negotiations relating to a proposed transaction.  In such case, the transferred information may become subject to a different privacy policy. 

How do we protect your information?

Your Blue Wave account information is password-protected so only you have access to this personal information.  Financial information and account information of visitors to our website is protected with a secure session using Secure Socket Layer (SSL) and Transport Layer Security (TLS) encryption. Remember to sign out of your Blue Wave account and close your browser window when you have finished your work.  This is to ensure that others cannot access your account by using your computer when you are away from it.  Because information sent through the Internet travels from computer to computer throughout the world, when you give us information, that information may be sent electronically to servers outside of the country where you originally entered the information.  Unfortunately, no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure.  Except as specifically stated, this site does not use security encryption measures.  Information that you disclose by use of unsecured areas of this website potentially could be collected and used by others.  This may result in unsolicited messages from third parties or use of such information by third parties for their own purposes, legal or illegal.  As a result, while we strive to protect your personal information, we cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us or from our services, and you do so at your own risk.  Once we receive your transmission, we use commercially reasonable efforts to ensure its security on our systems. 

Email and Email addresses - Regular non-encrypted Internet email is not secure. Messages sent from our “Contact” link on our website are not secure and should never contain any personal or sensitive information such as account numbers, passwords or balance information. Our staff will never reply back to these email messages with confidential customer information.  If we need to relay confidential information to you via email, we will use our encrypted, secured email process which will require you to set up a secure username and password to access the email.  

Email addresses provided to us at the time of account opening may be used to provide bank contact information, account features, or products that are provided with your new account.  You may opt out of receiving information of this nature at any time by clicking "Unsubscribe" at the bottom of any of these emails. All online banking customers enrolled in BlueWave Online Banking have provided us with specific personal information at the time of enrollment, and we have provided them with our Online Banking Disclosures. We may access their email address in order to send them email updates regarding online maintenance, enhancements and/or security information pertaining to BlueWave and its applications. If they prefer not to receive email of this nature, they may email their request to bluewave@bankbv.com.

What else do you need to know about using our website and services?

Surveys - From time to time, customers may be asked to participate in an email satisfaction survey. There is no obligation to complete the survey; these surveys are used so that we can gather information to better serve you. You may opt out of receiving requests of this nature by using the "Unsubscribe" option at the bottom of these emails.  Based on the information you provide to us, we may inform you of other accounts and services you may be interested in.

Links to other sites – Our website provides links to non-Bank of Blue Valley sites, such as service providers, merchants, or social media platforms. If you follow links to sites not controlled by Bank of Blue Valley, you should review their privacy and security policies and other terms and conditions, as they may be different from those of our site. Bank of Blue Valley does not guarantee and is not responsible for the privacy or security of these websites, including the accuracy, completeness, reliability, or suitability of their information.  For your protection, we provide a disclaimer prior to transferring you to a non-Bank of Blue Valley site, to let you know their website policies may not be the same as ours.

Protecting Children's Online Privacy - We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 on our website, and our website is not directed to individuals under the age of 13.  For more information about the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), visit the FTC's COPPA webpage.  

Policy Updates - The Bank of Blue Valley Website Security Policy is subject to change. Please review it periodically. Any changes to this Policy will become effective when we post the revised Policy on the Site. We will post a notice to our homepage informing you of any revisions to this Policy.  Your use of the Site following these changes means that you accept the revised Policy.

Please keep in mind that whenever you voluntarily disclose information online, that information is accessible to other customers and users.  Ultimately, you are solely responsible for maintaining the secrecy of your passwords and/or any account information.  Please be careful and responsible whenever you are online. 

When you or we end your customer relationship with us, we will treat the information we have about you as if you were still our customer.
