Community Ties
Bank of Blue Valley was founded in 1989 as a community bank dedicated to assisting local non-profits financially and by volunteering. The tradition of involvement in community affairs has grown along with the Bank. Today we are proud to call these worthwhile organizations our partners and friends.
Blue Valley Educational Foundation
The Blue Valley Educational Foundation is a non profit organization that was created in the fall of 1990 in response to changes in tax-based support for public education. These changes meant that our residents' ability to directly support the Blue Valley School District was lessened. The Foundation was created to help supplement the needs of the students in the school district through grants, scholarships and special programs. The Foundation is a means to empower educators to go beyond the limits of our financial environment, not just occasionally, but continually.
Wonderscope Children’s Museum
Bank of Blue Valley is a proud partner with Wonderscope Children’s Museum in Shawnee, Kansas. The museum provides an enjoyable hands-on, interactive environment for children, their families and school or community groups to explore science, technology, the arts and humanities. Bank of Blue Valley has also provided a mini-branch at the museum designed to give children an interactive banking experience that’s both educational and fun.
The Salvation Army
The Salvation Army is an international religious and charitable movements serving 102 countries. The Salvation Army offers a helping hand to people of all ages, races, and cutural backgrounds. It helps the elderly, families, and young people. Locally, this includes a children's shelter, crisis care, supportive housing, drug and alcohol rehabillitation, corps coomunity centers, day care, disaster services, emergency assistance, home and hospital visits, military services, prison work, programs for the elderly and summer camps.
Deanna Rose Children's Farmstead
The Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead is eight acres of family fun and entertainment. Designed to depict a turn-of-the-century farm, the Farmstead includes a petting zoo, a silo with slides, a “tot-lot” for the younger children, a farmhouse and picture-box garden. The Farmstead was established in 1976 and dedicated in memory of Deanna Rose, an Overland Park police officer killed in 1985. The Bank benefited Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead with its first Charity Golf Classic hosted in 2002.
Wayside Waifs
As the largest independent, not-for-profit humane society in the Greater Kansas City area, Wayside Waifs offers humane treatment for and placement of 10,000 companion animals annually. BBV provided the construction financing to help Wayside rebuild its aging and fire-damaged facility. The Bank has hosted several on-site pet adoptions and benefited Wayside Waifs with its Second Annual Charity Golf Classic in 2003.
United Way
Every year, United Way raises money to fund vital programs at over 150 local agencies and charities in the Greater Kansas City area. And each year the Bank supports United Way with a campaign drive in October. Each United Way campaign helps to make our community a healthy and strong place in which to live and work. You can make a choice to support a wide array of needed community services with just one gift. And because volunteers review how your money is used, you know your gift is really making a difference. It’s the best charitable investment you can make by helping the most people with just one donation. Join more than 100,000 Kansas Citians who are investing in their community through United Way.
SAFEHOME
SAFEHOME is the only program of services for victims and survivors of domestic violence in Johnson County. SAFEHOME's vision is to eliminate domestic violence and sexual assault. The mission of SAFEHOME is to break the cycle of sexual and domestic violence and abuse. The goal of shelter services is to provide a healing atmosphere where survivors can gain inner strength, build self-esteem, explore options and establish a life free of violence. SAFEHOME's services continue to expand to meet the growing needs of victims of domestic violence in our community. In addition to a 10-week shelter program for women, services also include a specialized children's program at the shelter and outreach counseling services. In 2005, 239 women and 162 children were sheltered; 2,255 calls were received on the 24-hour hotline; and over 452 clients spent over 3,047 hours in counseling through outreach services. Volunteers donated over 22,857 hours in 2005.
Community Blood Center
The Bank has chosen to work with the Community Blood Center (CBC) of Greater Kansas City in raising awareness of how important the CBC is to Kansas City and the nation’s blood supply. The CBC has handled 99% of Kansas City’s blood needs for over twenty years, providing blood supplies in emergencies locally and across our nation. Please join us in our commitment to giving the gift of life on an ongoing basis.
